New Survey Says Americans Spend US$ 23.8 Billion Per Year Calling Abroad
According to a survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Rebtel, 58.8 million Americas are now calling abroad and spending US$ 23.8 Billion per year on international calls.
25% of adults in the U.S. make international calls with an average monthly spend of US$ 34 per month, according to the survey. My clients often ask me if the VoIP market is saturated or if there is still opportunity for emerging service providers.
According to this survey, the adults making international calls from the U.S. are not all using VoIP…yet.
The results are as follows.
Landline Service Provider: 42%
VoIP Service Provider: 12%
Mobile Service Provider: 25%
Mobile VoIP Application: 9%
PC2Phone Service Provider: 25%
Calling Cards: 20%
As you can see, there is still a huge group of people in the U.S. who have not switched to VoIP for international calling, creating a huge opportunity for new players in VoIP space. The survey also noted that many people are interested in video calling and would be willing to pay extra for a video calling service.
